Built for Growth: How campBARR Strengthened Connection and Culture

Each year, BARR Advisory brings its fully remote team together for campBARR, a few unforgettable days of learning, laughter, and connection. This year’s event, held September 29 to October 1 in Las Vegas, embodied the company’s 2025 theme: “Built for Growth.”

At BARR, growth isn’t just about expanding business; it’s about deepening relationships, reinforcing culture, and strengthening the ties that unite our remote team. Over three days, employees came together to celebrate accomplishments, collaborate on what’s next, and most importantly, reunite face-to-face.

Reconnecting Around the Campfire

Activities began with a warm welcome on Monday afternoon as team members checked in and stepped through a “secret entrance” into campBARR. The theme came to life immediately—a mix of fun, creativity, and community service. Employees designed cabin flags, crafted handmade decorations for families at the local Ronald McDonald House, and cast votes for the annual employee awards.

The evening’s highlight was “Squad Games” at Play Playground, a lively, laughter-filled event where teams faced off in over-the-top challenges. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about building camaraderie, cheering each other on, and rediscovering the joy that comes from shared, in-person experiences.

Growing Together

Tuesday’s full-day meeting shifted the focus to company growth, both personal and organizational. BARR Founder and CEO Brad Thies kicked off the day with Breakfast with Brad, setting the tone for a session of reflection and forward vision. Next, the Q4 All Hands meeting communicated company updates, new goals, and exciting opportunities on the horizon.

Department breakout sessions allowed teams to collaborate cross-functionally, exchanging ideas, and forming new department and individual goals. Later, guest presenter Jeff Danley led a session on “Creating Your Custom GPT: Accessible AI for Everyday Work,” encouraging employees to think creatively about how technology can simplify workflows and amplify project impact.

The day concluded with the Leadership Team’s “Closing Campfire,” a panel conversation that brought the company’s leaders and employees together in open dialogue. The metaphor of the campfire—a place to gather, share stories, and align around purpose—perfectly captured the spirit of the event.

Under the Neon Lights

As night fell, campers traded their business casual for flannel and tie-dye to celebrate at the “Under the Neon Lights” Awards Dinner. Every employee received a custom camp pennant flag recognizing their years of service and accomplishments at the firm. 

The pinnacle of the night came when Michelle Rawlings, senior marketing associate, was named Employee of the Year during the annual BARR Constellation Awards. Known for her creativity, collaboration, and commitment to excellence, Michelle exemplifies what it means to live BARR’s values every day.

The relaxed, camp-themed evening blended heartfelt recognition with lighthearted fun. To top off the evening, employees participated in karaoke, which has quickly become one of BARR’s most popular and favorite traditions. 

Leaving Recharged and Reconnected

The final morning provided time to reflect and recharge over breakfast before heading home. By design, campBARR wasn’t just a company retreat—it was a living expression of the BARR ethos: investing in our people, nurturing culture, and strengthening our foundation for collective growth.

“The event was tremendously well orchestrated and organized. It felt like a perfect balance of socializing with my coworkers, and seeing us all come together in a ‘work’ environment under a common goal,” said Kyle Kofsky, PCI senior consultant.

As the team dispersed back to their remote corners of the country, they carried with them more than memories. They brought renewed energy, deeper relationships, and a shared understanding that when BARR invests in connection, everyone grows stronger. Because at BARR, growth isn’t built alone—it’s built together.
