BARR Builds Philanthropy through March Madness Giving Tournament

March 28, 2022 |

On March 21, BARR Advisory tipped off our first-ever March Madness Giving Tournament. This friendly competition between associates will raise funds for two humanitarian-based organizations, Feeding America and the American Red Cross

BARR chose both causes for this year’s philanthropy in recognition of National Nutrition Month and Red Cross Month. These observations are near and dear to BARR, and during the month of March, associates have been sharing tips for healthful habits or helping you locate your nearest blood drive in support of their goals.

The Giving Tournament is also part of BARR’s collective effort to create stronger, safer, and more secure communities. The BARR Belong Foundation provides year-round opportunities for associates to participate in philanthropic projects, not only in financial support, but also through volunteerism, community building, and pro-bono services.

“We hope to inspire associates to support organizations that are close to their hearts,” said Jonnae Hill, manager of culture and community engagement.

“The Giving Tournament is an opportunity to expand on our community outreach and focus on two worthy causes that are providing much needed resources to local and global communities.”

Themed around the NCAA March Madness tournament, donations for the friendly competition are split into two teams. Associates can donate to each team until April 3, contributing toward the organizations’ individual missions:

  • Funds raised for Team Feeding America will support their mission of getting nourishing food to people in need. Hunger has no boundaries, and Feeding America has programs to reach children, seniors, and families no matter where they live or spend time.
  • Funds raised for Team Red Cross will be designated for American Red Cross efforts providing life-saving aid to people in Ukraine and neighboring countries who need humanitarian assistance.

The goal is to raise $5,000, and BARR is dedicated to matching funds up to $2,014 in honor of our founding year, 2014. While BARR will announce the Giving Tournament Champion on April 4, Hill was sure to mention that, “Both teams are winners in our eyes.”

BARR remains enthusiastic about fostering a community of philanthropy. We look forward to more opportunities to give back this year during events like National Volunteer Week in April and BARR’s Annual Day of Giving on October 20. And as we cheer on our favorite basketball teams this March, BARR is equally excited to see how far our donations can go.
