BARR Associates Take Part in Third Annual Day of Giving

October 21, 2020 |

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, BARR Advisory associates spent the day giving back as part of the company’s third annual Day of Giving. This year looked a bit different though due to COVID-19, as most team members volunteered virtually for various organizations including Color a Smile, Cards for Hospitalized Kids, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and more.

Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. BARR associates spent time creating beautifully colored pages—some even got their family members involved. Team members who volunteered with Cards for Hospitalized Kids helped spread hope, joy, and magic to hospitalized kids across the U.S. by creating cheerful, handmade cards. Team members were also able to select their own volunteer opportunity outside of these options.

Throughout the day, associates could also be found donating blood, organizing their own trash pick-ups, putting together gifts for Red Bags KC, and taking time to make a plan to vote. They came together via Zoom to kick off the day first thing in the morning, and also reconvened for lunch as a full team to talk about the various organizations close to their hearts.

“Now more than ever, we need to take time to give back,” said Brad Thies, founder and president. “The whole day was uplifting. We were each able to share and learn about service organizations close to our hearts, and I realized many BARR associates volunteer far beyond the BARR Day of Giving, which is inspiring. I’m so thankful associates value this day and view it as a true BARR tradition.”

This year, the team furthered their giving efforts by selecting four organizations to make a donation to, including the ALS Association, Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
