BARR Team Gives Back at Second Annual Day of Giving

October 23, 2019 |

On Monday, Oct. 21, BARR associates spent the day away from their desks and out in the community volunteering for various organizations. This is BARR’s second annual Day of Giving, with team members serving nonprofits such as the KC Pet Project (Kansas City, Missouri), The Road Home (Salt Lake City), ROC SALT Center (Rochester, New York), and Cards for Hospitalized Kids (Chicago).

“This annual service day has quickly become a tradition for the BARR team,” said Brad Thies, founder and president. “It’s a day for all of us to step away from our usual routines and give back to our communities. We also get to learn a lot about the organizations we are helping.”

The KC team spent the morning cleaning the KC Pet Project facility, followed by time in the play yard with a very special dog named Legend (pictured). If you’re considering adding a dog or cat to your family, we highly recommend visiting a KC Pet Project location. They even let you take a pet out of the shelter for an hour — or even a whole day — to see if they’re a good match for you.

Our Salt Lake City team spent time at an organization called The Road Home, which assists individuals and families experiencing homelessness. They helped sort and organize donations brought in by the community.

The Chicago crew gave their time to a project called Cards for Hospitalized Kids. They each made cards for distribution to hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses across the country.

Our Rochester team served at the ROC SALT Center — a food program serving the Rochester, New York, community by providing free groceries and vegetables from their gardens. They helped keep the shelves stocked and sewed nearly a dozen reusable grocery bags for shoppers to use since the organization is working to eliminate plastic bags.
