Ten years ago on March 17, Brad Thies founded BARR Advisory, a cloud-based solutions provider dedicated to simplifying the path to security and compliance for mission-driven companies aiming to build long-term cyber resilience. Our mission from the get-go? To help create a more secure world.
“Since the beginning, BARR has helped cloud-service providers of all sizes tackle cybersecurity and compliance as the cloud shifted from an emerging technology to a core part of almost every organization today,” said Thies.
Celebrating a decade of business is a big deal and we are so excited to celebrate this milestone by getting together in person in April for a very special event called “BARRfest.” It’s the perfect time for all employees to gather in Kansas City for a few days of team building, business, service, and of course, fun!
Never before have we been better positioned to drive our business, our clients, and the industry forward. As the cybersecurity industry has evolved, so too has BARR Advisory. In honor of our 10 years in business, we’re proud to share a few highlights from over the years:
- In 2014, Brad Thies founded BARR Assurance & Advisory, Inc., a remote-first company
- In 2017, after achieving the highest rating possible by an independent peer reviewer, the company rebranded to BARR Advisory, P.A., complete with a new website and logo.
- As we’ve continued to grow in size, women now represent 57% of our team, compared to 25% of the global cybersecurity workforce.
- In 2018, BARR began our annual Day of Giving tradition. Each October, we close for business so our associates can spend the day volunteering in their communities across the U.S.
- In 2021, BARR became one of only a few firms in the U.S. eligible to perform ISO/IEC 27001 attestations, SOC 2 audits, and HITRUST certifications.
- In 2022, BARR was featured as one of the Best Compliance Solutions by Cybernews, who listed us as second among their editorial team’s top picks for compliance solutions providers.
- In 2023, BARR Advisory was named by Ingram’s Magazine as one of the “Top 10 Fastest-Growing Businesses in Kansas City,” experiencing an average annual growth rate of just over 176%.
- Most recently, BARR was also named one of the “Best Companies to Work For 2024” by Ingram’s Magazine.
- In addition to our global network of partners, to date, we have proudly served hundreds of clients spanning 20+ countries and six continents.
- Today, BARR has completed thousands of successful engagements and holds a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 87, a world-class ranking.
In addition to these landmark business achievements throughout the last decade, BARR is committed to engaging in charitable activities in Kansas City and across the country. Through the BARR Belong Foundation, BARR team members have donated money, time, and talent to nonprofit organizations like Newhouse KC, Kansas City Young Audiences, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City, and many more. BARR’s 10th Founder’s Day gives us the opportunity to reflect on where we started and where we are today. We’ve come a long way since our founding, and we look forward to continuing to provide security and compliance solutions to our valued clients.
