[00:00:00] Christine Falk: Hi everyone and welcome to cyBARR Chats, BARR Advisory’s official video series, featuring our associates speaking on a range of cybersecurity and compliance topics. I’m Christine Falk and today we speak with Kari Cohen, practice director, to learn about a new service here at BARR called People and Culture Services.

Welcome, Kari, before we get started, Kari, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and where you’re located and how long you’ve been with.

[00:00:29] Kari Cohen: Yeah, well, first of all, thank you for having me. I live in Kansas City and have lived here since college. My husband and I have two boys, very, very energetic we’re so we’re very busy.

I have been in the people operations space in various capacities, whether it’s been an HR or talent acquisition for about the past 15 years and was brought on this summer to launch and grow our people and culture services line. And I couldn’t be more excited and thrilled to be here.

[00:01:07] Christine Falk: Excellent. Thank you. As I mentioned earlier, people and culture services is new to BARR.. So can you tell us first, what are the goals of this new service and what are your core offerings?

[00:01:18] Kari Cohen: Yeah, definitely. So our goals for People and Culture Services are to create custom-tailored programs for innovative growing companies that want to push people, programs, and initiatives at the forefront of their businesses.

We offer several programs for companies to have our team. As an extension of their team, to bring in we can offer our knowledge and our expertise for newer companies. This could mean standing up HR basics. That could be the fundamentals, templates, processes, procedures, anything that a company may need to help them for growth. It also could be for a fast growing company. It may be evaluating their talent acquisition process, auditing interview steps, creating job descriptions, and even just looking at the hiring team, just wanting to ensure that the company is relevant in today’s market. And then for other teams, it may just be crafting incredible associate experiences through our onboarding training development, or even just cold culture initiatives.

So really just kind of meeting a company where they are, um, helping them elevate, encourage and enhance all of their people practices.

[00:02:46] Christine Falk: This sounds great. So who would benefit from utilizing this new service?

[00:02:50] Kari Cohen: Oh, gosh, well, really any organization that wants to put people initiatives at the forefront of their businesses.

So it could be a company that maybe doesn’t have the bandwidth internally. So they want to bring in our team to help develop those programs, um, and help implement. And then we can even help train them. Or it could be a company that maybe isn’t large to have someone in house full full-time. So maybe they hire our team kind of in a, all a card capacity, um, to put these programs into place.

It also could just be a company looking to renew or re revamp, or even reenergize their current workforce. Sometimes having an outside company come in. Audit assessment can really shed some light on what needs to be added to be impactful for change. Absolutely.

[00:03:51] Christine Falk: So Kari, what should companies expect when they work with BARR Advisory for their HR and their talent needs?

[00:03:58] Kari Cohen: I would say first and foremost, they can expect a well-thought plan. Um, that’s going to be supported by a team of experts who genuinely care about the company’s associates, their wellbeing, their engagement, and their productivity. We truly believe a company’s biggest asset are their associates and so taking care of them.

Programs offerings initiatives. We’ll keep them focused, productive, feeling safe, which ultimately will affect all aspects of the business.

[00:04:36] Christine Falk: That’s a great point. So this brings me to our last question for our listeners. How might they get started working with the BARR People and Culture Services team?

[00:04:46] Kari Cohen: I think my best advice would be to set up a primary call where we can kind of look at really what’s going on. Listen. Set up a roadmap of kind of some varying options that may work within the company’s goals, core values, their growth plan and long-term objectives. So if they want to visit our website, learn a little bit more about our offerings, then we can schedule that free call to kind of assess what they need and then go through.

[00:05:19] Christine Falk: What an exciting new opportunity, Kari, thank you so much for sharing all of this valuable information and thank you all for joining us today. That does it for this episode of cyBARR chats. We look forward to seeing everyone again next time. Have a great day.
